Following the collapse of the SLBC tunnel near Srisailam in Nagarkurnool district of Telangana, the Indian Army acted swiftly and rushed its Engineering Task Force (ETF) to the site. The Army team has launched a massive rescue operation as part of Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief operations. The team is equipped with modern equipment and expertise which are crucial for such complex and traumatic missions.
A medical team and ambulances along with other necessary specialist groups have also been deployed at the spot, ensuring effective rescue operations. In the current development, the Army has taken proactive initiative to rescue the people trapped in the tunnel. Several workers were working inside the tunnel at the time of the accident and eight of them are feared to be trapped. The construction of the tunnel had resumed recently and the workers were repairing the possible water leakage.
State Chief Minister Revanth Reddy immediately informed the officials about the collapse of the tunnel and the workers being trapped. The District Collector, SP and officials of other departments have been instructed to ensure relief measures on the spot as soon as possible. In this regard, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while talking to the Chief Minister on the phone, has assured all possible help to the state government. While reviewing the rescue efforts, he talked about providing support and assistance from the central government.
It is noteworthy that this incident took place in Amrabad on the under-construction section of Srisailam Left Bank Canal Tunnel (SLBC), due to which relief and rescue operations are currently going on in full swing.
