The Supreme Court has constituted an SIT to investigate the allegations of adulteration in Tirupati Prasad. The monitoring of the SIT team will be conducted by the CBI Director. Two CBI officers appointed by the CBI Director, two state police officers, and one official from FSSAI will be part of this team. Instead of the SIT formed by the state government, this new SIT team will conduct the investigation regarding the Prasad.
The Supreme Court stated that it does not want this matter to become a victim of political drama, as it is connected to the faith of millions of people. Therefore, the investigation will be conducted independently by the SIT. Notably, on September 30, the Supreme Court commented on Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s statement that God should be kept away from politics. The Supreme Court mentioned that the report made public is from July, yet the Chief Minister is making statements regarding it in September.
During the hearing, the Supreme Court noted that it is not clear from the report whether the allegedly adulterated ghee was used in the preparation of the laddus offered as Prasad. When the Supreme Court asked the temple administration whether the sample found to be adulterated was used to make the Prasad, the lawyer for the temple administration stated that it would need to be investigated.
