The Uttar Pradesh government has made a significant administrative decision, clarifying that Aadhaar will no longer be accepted as a proof of date of birth . The Planning Department has issued a formal order to all government departments, making it clear that Aadhaar will no longer be used as proof of date of birth for recruitment, service verification, educational document verification, and other government functions.

This order was issued by Amit Singh Bansal , Special Secretary of the Planning Department . The department clarified that the date of birth given in the Aadhaar card is not verified against any official document, and therefore cannot be considered a valid DOB proof. Many government departments were previously accepting Aadhaar as a proof of date of birth, and these clear instructions have been issued to stop this practice.

The UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) had previously clearly stated that Aadhaar is only a document for identity and address , not for date of birth verification. Despite this, various state departments were accepting it as DOB proof. Now, the UP government has implemented this rule, citing a letter sent by the UIDAI’s Lucknow regional office.

According to a new directive from the Planning Department, Aadhaar cards will not be considered valid proof of date of birth for any government work—such as government job applications, service book updates, document verification, admission to educational institutions, or other administrative processes . Departments have been instructed to ensure strict compliance with this rule.

Copies of the order have been sent to the Principal Secretary, Private Secretary, UIDAI Regional Office, Lucknow, and other senior officials to avoid any confusion at the administrative level. All departments have been requested to immediately disseminate the information to their subordinate offices.

Following this decision, only birth certificates, high school certificates, passports, or other valid government documents will be accepted for proof of date of birth. This move by the UP government is considered a major administrative reform toward ensuring transparency and standardization in document verification.
