The election for the new Vice President will be held tomorrow. Voting will be held in Parliament House from 10 am to 5 pm. The NDA candidate is Jagdeep Dhankad while Margaret Alva is the opposition candidate. The Vice-President is elected through the system of proportional representation by members of the electoral college consisting of members of both the houses of the Parliament.

The total number of members in the Parliament is seven hundred 88, out of which 543 are from the Lok Sabha and two hundred and 33 are from the Rajya Sabha. 12 members are nominated. Counting of votes will be done in Parliament House itself after voting tomorrow. The term of Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu ends on the 10th of this month.

The chances of the opposition candidate Margaret Alva winning this election were not remote. The opposition had an opportunity to show solidarity in this election after the presidential election. However, the true hopes of showing solidarity were shattered after the TMC announced that it would abstain from voting.
