Yashwant Sinha will be the opposition candidate for the presidential election. His name was announced after the meeting of opposition parties in New Delhi today. These parties have said in a joint statement that a unanimous decision has been taken on the candidature of Yashwant Sinha.
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh alleged that the government did not make any serious effort to arrive at a consensus about the candidate for the presidential election.
Today’s meeting was attended by Congress leader Malikarjun Kharge, Communist Party of India general secretary Sitaram Yechury, Samajwadi Party leader Professor Ram Gopal Yadav, Trinamool Congress’ Abhishek Banerjee, DMK’s Tiruchi Siwa and others.
Earlier, Yashwant Sinha had resigned from the post of National Vice President of Trinamool Congress, after which there was speculation that he may be declared as the opposition candidate for the post of President.
