Tirath Singh Rawat is going to become Uttarakhand’s next Chief Minister, the BJP declared today at its party meeting in the state capital. He’s expected to be sworn in at 4 p.m.
On Tuesday, Trivendra Singh Rawat resigned as Chief Ministerial Officer. His resignation came after the BJP General Secretary in charge of Uttarakhand Dushyant Kumar Gautam and former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh sent a report to the BJP’s central leadership outlining the revolt in the party’s state unit, according to sources.
Tirath Singh Rawat, 56 years old, is a BJP MP. He was the party’s leader in Uttarakhand in 2013-15, as well as the state’s MLA in the past. The name was chosen from prominent candidates, including Union Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank and Uttarakhand Minister Dhan Singh Rawat.
The Lok Sabha MP from Garhwal was elected leader of the BJP legislature, paving the way for him to take office as the next Uttarakhand Chief Minister.
Tirath Singh Rawat was President of the Uttarakhand BJP from 2013-2015. He was also a former member of the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly in the Chaubttakhal constituency.
