India, Bhutan Sign Pact On Cooperation In Peaceful Uses Of Outer Space

On Wednesday, the Union Cabinet approved a Memorandum of Understanding between India and Bhutan on cooperation in the peaceful use of outer space.

According to an official release, the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi accepted and exchanged the MoU between India and Bhutan on Cooperation in Peaceful Uses of Outer Space signed on 19 November by both sides in Bangalore/Thimpu.

This MoU would allow India and Bhutan to collaborate in areas of potential interest, such as Earth remote sensing; satellite communication and navigation; space research and planetary exploration; the use of spacecraft and space systems and ground systems; and the use of space technologies,” the statement said.

The Cabinet also announced that a Joint Working Group will be set up, bringing together the representatives of DOS/ISRO and the Ministry of Information and Communications (MoIC) of Bhutan to further formulate the action plan, including the timeline and means of execution.

The signed MOU would lead to the completion of a formal Implementing Agreement on specific areas of collaboration and the formation of a Joint Working Committee, the creation of an action
