Iranian authorities have arrested more than 100 suspects in connection with the poisoning of schoolgirls. Initial inquiries have revealed that many of these people have carried out such incidents out of mischief or audacity and with the aim of disrupting classes.
Iran has seen several incidents of suspected toxic substances being given to girls’ schools in recent months. The United Nations and the United States called on the Iranian authorities to fully investigate these incidents and bring those responsible to justice.
Meanwhile, Iranian politicians say school-going girls were targeted by radical Islamic groups. It has been said that the poisoning incidents may be related to the nationwide agitations that started after the death of Mahsa Amini in September last year.
