At least 12 Indian army personnel and government officials are under the scanner after Indian expelled two Pakistan High Commission officials on charges of espionage, sources have revealed.

The two officials, Abid Hussain and Muhammad Tahir were caught by Delhi Police while they were obtaining sensitive documents relating to India’s security installations from Indian nationals in exchange of money.

Counterespionage agencies are now trying to probe the nature of contact Indian officials had with Pakistani visa officials.

Agencies claim Pakistan High Commission officials targetted relatives of those seeking a Pakistan visa, for obtaining sensitive information.

Investigation revealed that if any applicants for Pakistan visa had relatives in the Indian armed forces or the government, their visa would be expedited in return for an introduction with the government officials.

Sources also claim that Pakistan visa officials would offer Rs 25,000 for every sensitive document they obtained from Indian officials.

Once the initial payment was made, they would blackmail the Indian officials to get more information.

Young Indian Army soldiers were allegedly targetted by establishing contact at markets in Delhi Cantonment area such as Gopinath Bazar and Sadar Bazar.

Other jawans were targetted through Facebook.

On Sunday, India expelled two Pakistan High Commission officials on charges of espionage and ordered them to leave the country within 24 hours, declaring them ‘persona non grata’.

The two officials would visit Indian defence personnel as businessmen to secure information for “news reporters”.

When the two Pakistan High Commission officials were caught by police on Sunday, the special cell of the Delhi Police recovered incriminating documents, Rs 15,000 and two iPhones from their possession.

The officials were working at the visa section of the Pakistan High Commission and confessed during the interrogation that they worked for Pakistani spy agency ISI.
