A team of women officers of the Indian Navy has created history by completing the first independent maritime surveillance mission in the North Arabian Sea aboard a Dornier 228 aircraft. The mission was accomplished by five women officers of Naval Air Squadron-INAS-314 at Naval Air Enclave at Porbandar, Gujarat. The mission was captained by Lieutenant Commander Aanchal Sharma. His team consisted of Pilot Lt Shivangi and Lt Apoorva Geete. Lt. Pooja Panda and Sub Lt. Pooja Shekhawat, as tactical and censor officers, assisted in the mission. A special court in Mumbai on Thursday extended till August 8 the custody of Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut. He has been arrested by Ed in a money laundering case. Extending the custody, the court said the ED has made “substantial progress” in the investigation. The central agency had arrested Raut on Sunday midnight in connection with alleged financial irregularities in the redevelopment of Patra ‘Chawl’ in suburban Goregaon and financial transactions involving property of his wife and alleged associates. The court had on Monday sent Raut to ED custody till August 4.

Bangladesh’s National Human Rights Commission has condemned the recent attack on Hindu houses and business places in Digholia village of Narail Lohagra Upazila and ordered an inquiry. India and the US will conduct a fortnight military exercise at Auli in Uttarakhand in October this year. This 18th joint exercise of both the countries will run from 14 to 31 October. Its aim is to increase cooperation and interoperability between the armies of the two countries. The last maneuver took place in Alaska, USA in October last year.
