At least 73 people, including 13 US soldiers, were killed and one hundred and fifty injured in two suicide attacks and gunshots outside Kabul airport last evening in Afghanistan.
Officials said the suicide attack took place at the airport’s abbey gate and was followed by gunfire. The second suicide attack took place at a hotel outside the airport. The US Department of Defense has said that several US civilians have been injured.
The head of the US Central Command, General Kenneth Frank McKenzie, said the blast could not thwart the US’s effort to safely return people, including American citizens, from Afghanistan.
According to the information received, two of the most prominent leaders of Afghanistan, former President Hamid Karzai and Abdullah Abdullah, have been safely placed under house arrest by the Taliban.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has condemned the terrorist attack and expressed condolences to the casualties in the blast.
