According to a new report by Reporters Without Borders-RSF, China is at the forefront of the arrest of journalists in the world. At least 127 reporters are currently in Chinese custody. In the ranking of RSF, he was ranked one hundred and 77th out of one hundred 80 countries in the World Press Freedom Index 2021.

At least ten journalists and online commenters were arrested in Wuhan in 2020 for the simple act of informing the public about the COVID-19 crisis. Two of them are still in custody.

The report also said that Chinese authorities used the fight against extremism to arrest Uighur journalists reporting on Xinjiang.

Foreign journalists are also facing difficulties due to this attitude of China.
