No Mango Ban: Nepal Dismisses Rumors of Restrictions on Indian Imports

KHMANDU/NEW DELHI: Elements attempting to sabotage the centuries-old diplomatic and commercial ties between India and Nepal have faced a decisive setback from Kathmandu. The Government of Nepal has officially dismissed widespread media rumors claiming that a total ban had been imposed on the import of Indian mangoes into the country. The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development released a clear statement clarifying that no such restrictions have been put in place, nor is there any intention to alter the current import framework.

According to Nepalese officials, border authorities are merely executing standard ‘phytosanitary’ protocols and pesticide residue screenings, which are completely routine under international food safety standards. This timely clarification delivers a strong blow to anti-India syndicates and regional echo chambers that were weaponizing false narratives on social media to manufacture an artificial trade war between the two friendly neighbors. Indian mangoes remain a staple favorite among Nepalese consumers and form the backbone of cross-border agricultural trade.

Driven by the Modi government’s robust ‘Neighborhood First’ policy, India continues to be a dependable anchor for Nepal’s food security and agricultural supply lines. Following the official clarification, commercial truck movements across key border checkpoints have returned to normal, bringing immense relief to Indian exporters. Kathmandu’s transparent stance proves that despite external geopolitical attempts to create friction, the deeply rooted economic and diplomatic partnership between India and Nepal remains entirely secure against hostile propaganda.
