A Sixteen-year-old girl was abducted from West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district and taken to Bangladesh. With the concerted efforts of the guards at the border the girl has been traced and has been returned to her family thanks to concerted efforts by border guards from both countries, BSF official said on Friday.

The girl is a resident of a village near the international border, was taken to the neighbouring country by a Bangladeshi man on 7 March, Border Security Force 112 Battalion Commander Arun Kumar said.

The battalion is stationed at the frontier outpost of Hakimpur. The news of her abduction reached the BOP and Kumar made contact with his counterpart in the Bangladesh Border Guards (BGB) on the other side of the border.

He exchanged details about her with the BGB official and asked him to rescue the child. Constant networking with the BGB and joint efforts of border guards of both the country’s ensured the safe return of the girl who was handed over to her family on Thursday, Kumar said. However, what happened to the convicted man is not known.
