In a remarkable move, the first Lok Sabha session of PM Modi’s second term passes 30 bills. Breaking the 1952 record, the Modi government has shown to the people that since the time, the government took over, with its landslide victory in May, their journey has been the most successful. Modi government pushed a record 30 bills in the Lok Sabha, out of which 20 have been passed by the house. Both Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha passed a total of 14 bills.
“People must know parliament is functioning and work is taking place. We have to restore the confidence of the people who have great expectations from us,” said Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla
Prime Minister made it transparent about the discipline of work culture among his lawmakers. Discipline and punctuality comes first when it comes to parliamentary affairs. Stringent rules have been imposed for everyone. A two-time Lok Sabha lawmaker, Om Birla reportedly reports to parliament at 9.30 am. He also meets secretaries of ministries whose bills are being considered and questions them on various aspects of the legislation.
PM Modi made it public by criticising union ministers for skipping roster duty while parliament was in session. In June, on the first working day of the current parliament session, he asked his lawmakers to forget about the opposition and “work in the larger interest of the nation”.
“When we come to parliament, we should forget about paksh and vipaksh(government and opposition). We should think about issues with a nishpaksh (impartial) spirit and work in the larger interest of the nation,” he said.
