A domestic Yeti Airlines flight NYT 691 from Kathmandu to Pokhara crashed minutes before landing at the new international airport in Nepal yesterday. All 68 passengers on board the aircraft died in the accident.
The army, armed police forces and policemen and local people struggled to retrieve the bodies from the crash site. There were a total of 68 passengers on board the plane, including five Indians and 15 foreign nationals. There were also four crew members in the aircraft.
According to reports, the plane crashed due to bad weather while trying to land at Pokhara International Airport. Immediately after the accident, the Government of Nepal called an emergency meeting of the Council of Ministers and set up a five-member commission to investigate. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep grief over the loss of lives in the accident.
