India on Wednesday voted for the first time against Russia during a “procedural vote” on Ukraine at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). The 15-member UN Security Council invited Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to address the meeting via video-teleconference during this time.
The Russian army invaded Ukraine in February. Since then, India has voted against Russia for the first time on Ukraine. So far, New Delhi has been avoiding Ukraine’s case in the UN Security Council, which is unhappy with the West, including the US.
After the attack on Ukraine, Western countries have imposed tough economic and other sanctions on Russia. India is a non-permanent member of the UNSC for two years. His term will end in December.
