Massive anti-hijab protests continue in Iran. These protests are taking place after the death of 22-year-old woman Mhasa Amini in police custody. Two people are reported to have died in clashes with the police yesterday. Video footage showed female protesters cutting their hair and burning hijabs.

Women united against gender discrimination are demanding their basic rights. Tehran’s police chief said the death of the woman in custody was tragic and such an incident should not happen again. Last Tuesday, police detained Amini outside a metro station in Tehran for not wearing a hijab. According to eyewitnesses, the woman was brutally beaten up in the police van.

However, the Iranian police have refused to accept the allegation against them. Hours after the arrest, Amini’s family was informed that she was taken to the hospital and admitted there. According to Iranian police, Amini had suffered a heart attack. Strongly opposing this claim of the police, Amini’s family has said that her health was absolutely fine at the time of her arrest.
