The labour unrest that erupted violently in Noida’s Phase-2 on Monday continued to simmer on Tuesday, with workers staging fresh protests at multiple locations. Demonstrators clashed with police, indulged in stone pelting, and damaged property, forcing authorities to deploy heavy police presence across the industrial area. So far, 60 people have been arrested in connection with the agitation.
In a significant move, the Uttar Pradesh government announced a revision in minimum wages for all categories of workers, effective from April 1, 2026. In Gautam Buddha Nagar and Ghaziabad, the minimum wage for unskilled workers has been raised from ₹11,313 to ₹13,690 per month, while semi-skilled workers will now receive ₹15,059 and skilled workers ₹16,868 per month. Revised rates have also been announced for other municipal corporation areas and remaining districts across the state.
District Magistrate Medha Roopam confirmed that the decision was taken on the recommendation of a high-powered committee and was approved by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath late at night. However, protesting workers remain firm on their core demand of a ₹26,000 minimum monthly wage, which is yet to be met, leaving the situation tense and unresolved.
