Death toll rises to 15 after cloudburst near Amarnath cave

Jammu and Kashmir Police, National Disaster Relief Force, Indo-Tibetan Border Police and Army are engaged in search and rescue operations after a cloudburst near Shri Amarnathji Holy Cave in Jammu and Kashmir. The death toll due to the cloudburst incident has now risen to 15. Among the dead, 7 are men and 6 women, while the other 2 bodies are yet to be identified.

Around 65 people were injured in the incident, out of which two people who were pulled alive from the debris are undergoing treatment at the hospital. The yatra has been temporarily suspended from both Pahalgam and Baltal in view of the cloudburst.

Chief Medical Officers of South Kashmir districts-Pulwama, Kulgam, Shopian and Anantnag have been directed to send more doctors and para-medical staff along with medicines and kits to Pahalgam. Apart from this, the Chief Medical Officers of North-Central Kashmir have been directed to send more doctors and para-medical staff along with medicines and kits to Baltal.

In view of bad weather and cloudburst, NDRF has issued helpline numbers. These numbers are- 011-234 38 252 and 011-234 38 253. The Amarnath Shrine Board and the Kashmir Division have also issued helpline numbers for the pilgrims. These numbers are- 0194-231 3149 and 0194-249 6240
