Delhi-NCR Old Commercial Vehicle Scrapping Plan Approved

NEW DELHI: A historic administrative mandate has been finalized by the Central Government and the Ministry of Transport to eliminate vehicular pollution and elevate urban safety in the national capital region. A comprehensive, time-bound policy has been approved to phase out and scrap commercial trucks and buses that are 10 to 15 years old. The execution of this green mobility transition is set to provide direct financial incentives and structural benefits to over 2 lakh commercial vehicle owners across Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, and Faridabad.

Under this framework, transport operators scrapping their old, polluting fleets will receive total registration fee waivers on new commercial purchases, alongside a 25% rebate on road taxes and an exclusive 5% manufacturer discount. This decisive policy is projected to cut down toxic smog and winter pollution levels by up to 40% in Delhi-NCR. Furthermore, by recycling steel and aluminum domestically through vehicle scrapping, this initiative delivers a massive boost to the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ mission while freeing transport businesses from high maintenance costs.
