The ED on Wednesday issued summons to Congress President Sonia Gandhi and party leader Rahul Gandhi for questioning in a money laundering case involving newspaper National Herald. The Congress president has been asked by the ED to appear on June 8, while Rahul Gandhi is believed to have been asked to appear earlier in the matter.
Congress leader Abhishek Manu Sanghvi told reporters that while senior leader Sonia Gandhi would obey the summons, “if Rahul Gandhi is here, he will go or request a new date”.
The case was registered recently in connection with the probe into alleged financial irregularities in the party-backed ‘Young Indian’. The newspaper belongs to National Herald, Young Indian Pvt Ltd.
Officials said the ED wants to find out about the financial transactions, promoters of Young Indian and the role of AJL by questioning Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi and senior Congress leaders.
