The government on Sunday hit out at the opposition, saying it was making non-issues an issue and trying to tarnish the image of Parliament.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi, addressing reporters after the all-party meeting ahead of the monsoon session of Parliament, said the government is ready to discuss all issues as per the rules and procedures of Parliament.

He also slammed the opposition for creating controversy over the list of unparliamentary words and circulars being issued regularly for the past several years, saying such a practice has been in place since 1954, when the first such list was presented. . He said that the opposition is doing this because it has no issue against the government.

On the ongoing controversy over unparliamentary words, he said, “The opposition is trying to malign the image of Parliament.” Joshi also said, “The use of any word has not been banned in Parliament and the Lok Sabha Secretariat Is issuing such list of unparliamentary words since 1954.

On the opposition’s criticism of the Prime Minister’s absence at the all-party meeting, the minister said, “The Prime Minister never attended all-party meetings before 2014, when Congress was in power.”
