Days after announcing political debut, Rajnikanth opts out

Actor Rajinikanth, who eventually seemed to be able to start his political party with a “now or never” statement earlier this month, has now opted to go for the latter course, citing health issues.

“With extreme sadness I say that I can’t enter politics. I alone know the pain I went through while announcing this decision,” he said in a tweet today. Two days after his release from the hospital, where he was hospitalised with blood pressure spikes over the weekend.

The Indian movie star scrapped his plans to get into politics, saying the health scare was “God’s warning.”

I will serve the people in whatever ways I can, without entering electoral politics,” he wrote in the Tamil-language letter.
Rajinikanth said he did not want to start such a major campaign and then leave it unfinished.
