An Assistant Sub-Inspector in Punjab’s Jalandhar town was dragged on a car bonnet on Saturday when a policeman tried to stop the vehicle during lockdown.

The police arrested the driver Amol Mehmi, 20, who was on the wheel of the black Ertiga, and his father Parminder Kumar, its owner.

The incident was recorded in a 90-second clip of a video. Assistant Sub-inspector Mulkh Raj was seen screaming for help.

In a tweet, state police chief Dinkar Gupta said: “Punjab Police has a zero tolerance policy” against such acts”.

He said Anmol Mehmi and his father were booked under the Epidemic Diseases Act and the Disaster Management Act.

“Anyone endangering safety of the people by breaking curfew, running through police check-points or manhandling doctors and other frontline workers will face the law,” Gupta said in a tweet.

He said Anmol Mehmi, which almost ran over Mulkh Raj, was arrested and his father, both booked for attempt to murder.
